ABOUT IVAN TROTTER
Artist Statement
My abstract works are the most recent chapter in my evolution as a painter. For many years I focussed on Group of Seven inspired recordings of the Canadian Shield, which expanded with much travel to Impressionist inspired canvases of urban and rural France and Italy. I continue to work in all of these areas.
My abstracts are deeply rooted in my other works, connected through a new interest in Quantum Science. My understanding of the Quantum Field is limited, but I am fascinated by the particles that make up matter and the forces with which they interact. It is said that particle transitions to wave when it is unobserved and transitions back when an observer is present. It is that millisecond of transition that I capture in my abstracts. Each piece in some way hosts energy and structure from my other work. Each painting also contains some reference to the sun - The Giver of Life - in time and space. The sun is a constant source of energy, inspiring all of creation including me.
My hope is that as you experience my work, you will feel that energy. I wish it to inspire joy as I believe that the ultimate function of my art is to make people happy.
Biography
Ivan has worked as a full time painter for the past twenty five years. He has traveled extensively to experience and record towns, villages and landscapes of mostly France and Italy. Previously, he was a visual arts teacher in the public system, while painting the Canadian landscape, mostly plein air.
Since the year 2000 Ivan has participated in over four hundred exhibitions, selling work in Dallas, Chicago, Boca Raton, Sarasota, Miami, Calgary, Edmonton, Banff, Ottawa, Windsor, Kingston, Barrie, Parry Sound, Lake Rosseau and extensively in Toronto.
He is self-taught with numerous mentors and some education in Art History. His colourful works of Provence and Tuscany have recently morphed into skillfully crafted abstracts. Years of a developed grasp of colour, balance and composition set these new works apart in their own energetic aesthetically pleasing zone.
